The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has commissioned the newly constructed roads at the Economic City, Bichi Phases I and II, in Kano State, North-West Nigeria.

He restated the Nigerian Government’s commitment to accelerating economic development nationwide through the provision of modern and durable infrastructure across the country.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North West), Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, the minister said the road projects were designed to stimulate economic activities, enhance connectivity, and improve the welfare of residents and businesses operating within and around the Economic City.

Umahi noted that, “The North-West geopolitical zone continues to benefit from numerous federal infrastructure projects, describing the ongoing interventions as a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the living standards of Nigerians through strategic development.”

According to him, the provision of quality road infrastructure remains a core component of the Renewed Hope Agenda, given its direct impact on trade, agriculture, transportation, and overall economic growth.

The minister further disclosed that the dualisation of the Kano–Katsina Road, a major federal highway inherited from the previous administration, has been sustained under President Tinubu’s leadership and is now at an advanced stage of completion.

As part of the national inspection tour, Engineer Umahi also inspected the ongoing 37.8-kilometre Kano Northern Bypass project, which is expected to include ten bridges upon completion.

He explained that the bypass would significantly decongest traffic from the North-East corridor, improve the transportation network, and facilitate the smooth movement of agricultural produce across states.

He added, “The project would also provide easier access for traders and business operators entering Kano, further strengthening the state’s position as a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.”

He also inspected the ongoing completion of outstanding sections of Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road, urging for timely completion.

Speaking on the quality and progress of the projects, the Federal Controller of Works in Kano State, Engineer Abdulsalam Dayyabu, assured that all ongoing constructions are being closely monitored by qualified professionals from the Federal Ministry of Works.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strict quality assurance and adherence to specifications, stressing that the projects would meet international standards and serve the people effectively for decades.
