The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing infrastructural development through structured Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) during the 2025 Nigeria PPP Summit held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The summit, themed “Unlocking Nigeria’s Potential: The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda,” was organised by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC). It brought together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to discuss sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Speaking during a panel session, Goronyo outlined the Ministry’s efforts to utilise PPP frameworks—particularly through the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI)—to improve the quality and management of Nigeria’s federal highways by attracting private sector investment.
The Minister emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to national service, stating: “Our loyalty is first to God Almighty, second to Mr President, and by extension, to the good people of Nigeria.”
He also criticised certain concession clauses as “offensive” and heavily skewed in favour of private investors, warning: “We cannot mortgage the future of our country and that of our children. Concessionaires must come to the table with agreements that create a win-win situation for all parties.”
Goronyo assured that all road concessions under the HDMI and similar frameworks would be guided by fairness, transparency, and alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged all stakeholders to prioritise national interest and uphold accountability as Nigeria seeks to leverage private sector capacity to bridge its infrastructure gap.
