Minister Seeks Private Sector Collaboration on Innovation
Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, announced on Tuesday a partnership with private-sector technopreneurs to develop science, technology, and innovation (STI) outcomes.
Nnaji made the call during a news conference in Abuja about the upcoming 2024 Technology and Innovation Expo.
According to him, developing the outcomes of science, technology, and innovation will fast-track the nation’s socio-cultural, economic, and political development.
He said that the 2024 Expo, titled “STI: Solution to National Economic Challenges,” would be held from March 11 to 15 in Abuja.

“The theme aligns with the ministry’s objectives of promoting science, technology and innovation, facilitating the commercialization of research, development and innovation outcomes,’’ he said.
He said that the purpose of the Expo was to unite Innovators/Inventors, research institutions, universities, federal and sub-national ministries, departments, and agencies in the private sector.
“This is to promote locally made goods and services, reduce the high cost of importation, enhance revenue generation and create employment opportunities.
”These initiatives are pivotal in advancing the Made in Nigeria Agenda, fuelled by indigenous inventions and innovations showcased during the event.
“The expo will feature such activities as an exhibition of research, development and innovation results, inventions and STI products and services,’’ he said.
He added that certificates and prizes would be awarded to outstanding exhibitors in the categories of tertiary and research institutions, inventors and inventors.
