Nigeria’s Ministry of Information and National Orientation has kicked off the second edition of its 2025 Ministerial Briefing Session, urging the media to prioritise accuracy, balance, and fairness in their reporting.
In his welcome address, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised the media for consistently disseminating government activities to the public, while also encouraging journalists to maintain fairness and precision in their coverage.
“The media have remained invaluable partners in our stride to continue to update Nigerians on the laudable achievements of the Tinubu Administration. I urge the media to ensure that these briefings are reported with the utmost sense of fairness and accuracy.
There should be no recourse to sensationalism in the reporting of government policies and programs. Criticisms and disagreements are welcome, in the spirit of democratic practice, but misinformation and disinformation should have no room whatsoever in public discourse,” he said.
According to the Information Minister, the briefing session serves as a platform to showcase the achievements of the Tinubu Administration across various sectors of the economy.
Adding that the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective communication with the Nigerian public.
“This is one of the efforts of the Tinibu administration to ensure that Nigerians are always informed as accurately, as honestly, as transparently as possible about all programs and policies of government. Nigerian media, indeed any other media organization is expected to also report this with utmost care. The idea is that Nigeria is first for all of us, and whatever we do, the interest of our dear country is paramount.
We will continue to bring at least two ministers every week to explain to Nigerians what they are doing in their various ministries from now up to May 29, when the administration will have closed two years, meaning that we are at least in the midterm in the life of this administration”. he added.
Idris assured that the government will provide wide publicity for the briefing sessions across multiple media platforms both traditional and social media to promote accountability and encourage public feedback.
The Ministerial Briefing Series will continue to feature key government officials, who will be providing regular updates on the administration’s progress in various sectors.
The Ministers of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar and that of the Regional Development, Mr. Abubakar Momoh, made the first appearance.
