The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Muhammad Idris,  has assured the nation of sweeping macroeconomic reforms under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking at the Grand Finale of the 2024 Press Week of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council in North Central Nigeria, the Minister highlighted the administration’s focus on sustainable economic growth, inflation reduction, and job creation.
Represented by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Minister outlined several impactful initiatives, including a student loan scheme and a groundbreaking Presidential initiative for low-cost CNG mass transit buses aimed at easing transportation costs for citizens.
Addressing concerns over the relocation of certain government departments, such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos, the Minister clarified that these moves are part of a broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and cut costs, ensuring a more responsive financial system for Nigeria.
Moreover, the Minister emphasized President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fairness, equitable development, and national unity.
In light of the growing threat of fake news, the Minister called upon media practitioners to uphold ethical reporting standards, urging collaboration between the NUJ and governments at all levels to foster a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
The event, graced by distinguished guests, also saw the investiture of the  Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago as the Grand Patron of the NUJ Niger State Council and the unveiling of the second edition of the NUJ Magazine, marking a significant milestone in the union’s journey towards excellence in journalism.
