Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has urged Nigeria’s IT sector to take advantage of the opportunities that come with working with other countries.

Speaking in Lagos on Friday at the Nigerian-French Technology Roundtable, Tijani made the call.

He claimed that Nigeria’s attendance at the 2025 Viva Technology (VivaTech) Conference in Paris marks a significant turning point for the country’s digital economy.

He claims that sites like VivaTech offer a unique chance to highlight Nigeria’s technological prowess and establish its tech companies as world leaders.

He underlined how crucial it is to support Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem by utilising France’s technological advantages, such as artificial intelligence and sustainability.

The minister also disclosed that a 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic cable project is in progress to improve Nigeria’s internet infrastructure and unveiled plans for a shared technology market to foster innovation.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in creating an environment where our tech startups can thrive, attract venture capital, and generate opportunities for economic growth,” he said.

The Consul General of France in Nigeria, Laurent Favier, said that technology was a key driver of Nigeria’s international influence.

Favier said that France was proud to collaborate in the journey.

‘’Events like VivaTech are vital for fostering global partnerships and expanding Nigeria’s role in the digital economy,” he said.

The roundtable was organised in collaboration with Globacom and the French Embassy.

It brought together VivaTech representatives, legislators, and leaders of the sector to discuss potential areas of cooperation.

The event’s speakers concentrated on how Nigeria’s involvement in VivaTech would encourage investment, support innovation, and increase the nation’s technological clout internationally.

The occasion brought attention to Nigeria’s developing status as a centre for technical innovation.

Paris, France, hosts the annual VivaTech technology conference and trade fair.

It is a global gathering spot for investors, entrepreneurs, and well-established businesses to talk about and present the newest technical advancements.

The roundtable’s sponsor, Globacom, has continuously backed programs that establish Nigeria as a pioneer in the digital economy.

The company’s investments and other initiatives demonstrate its continued dedication to supporting the expansion of Nigeria’s ICT sector.
