Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says politicians must learn from the sterling qualities of the former Governor of Oyo State, the late Alao Akala.

The Minister stated this on Saturday in Ogbomosho, the home town of the late Governor when he paid a condolence visit to commiserate with the family of the deceased.

Recalling his experience with the late politician, the Minister said Mr Akala was a political icon loved and revered by his people, hence his depth in grassroots politics when he was alive.

He said, “I want the the life of late Christopher Aloa Akala  to be a lesson to all of us.He spent 71 years on earth but during his time, especially in the political turf, he became a strong rallying point.
His personality teaches us that all politics is local. He was with the grassroots, he was very human and accessible. He was a man of the people and was  well celebrated at home. “

The Minister said the demise of the late politician has already created a vacuum in the politics of his domain and the national space but everybody was consoled in the fact that God knows the best and never makes mistake.

“We pray to God to continue to console and protect the family.Whatever he hasn’t achieved yet,we pray that the children he left behind would get there and achieve that unfinished feat.”

He said the man had a great interest in the entire Nigerian project as well as the interest of his Political party, the All Progressives Congress and his people of Oyo state.

Responding on behalf of the family, the son of the deceased, Mr Olumijuwon Alao Akala, who is a member of Parliament in Oyo state thanked the Minister for commiserating with the family and promised to uphold the values thought by their patriarch.

Mr Aloa Akala who was governor of Oyo state for one term, between 2003 to 2007 died in January 2022 at the age of 71 and has since been buried according to Christian rights. He is survived by 2 wives and many children.
