Ghanaian singer, MOLIY, has been named Spotify EQUAL Africa Artiste for January, marking a major milestone in her fast-rising global career.
She featured on the cover of Spotify’s EQUAL Global playlist, spotlighting African women driving the continent’s expanding influence on global music culture.
MOLIY is known for a hypnotic blend of Afro-pop, Afro-fusion and dancehall, delivering sounds that balance playfulness with emotional depth and global appeal.
Born and raised in Ghana, her musical journey evolved from curiosity into purpose, shaped by local legends and bold female voices who embodied confidence and individuality.
In December 2024, she released her breakout single, “Shake It To The Max”, which went viral internationally and introduced her to a worldwide audience.
The song’s success positioned MOLIY among a new generation of African women with global ambition, a rise reflected in Spotify Wrapped 2025 rankings.
She emerged as Ghana’s most exported artiste on Spotify in 2025, underscoring her growing international reach and influence.
Beyond music, MOLIY’s artistry celebrates femininity, freedom and self-expression, inspiring young women to embrace authenticity and creative confidence.
Speaking on her personality, MOLIY revealed a quieter side behind the spotlight.
“I’m actually quite introverted. I love creating, but I value quiet moments, family time and enjoying my peace,” she said.
She said music became her calling in 2018 after feeling unfulfilled elsewhere and discovering purpose through intentional creation.
“I realised African music was becoming global and I had something new to add,” she said.
Describing her sound, MOLIY said it is “Afro-pop and Afro-fusion at the core, with a bit of dancehall.
“It’s bold and playful, but emotional. Music you can dance to and still feel seen by,” she added.
Advising aspiring artistes, she encouraged consistency and self-belief.
“Do whatever is in your power now. Speak life into your goals and turn fear into belief,” she said.
On navigating the industry, MOLIY said staying grounded is essential.
“I don’t fit into boxes. My artistry allows confidence, vulnerability and multiple moods to coexist,” she said.
Reflecting on EQUAL Africa, she described it as a platform for empowerment.
“There’s power in women supporting women. EQUAL represents visibility, support and opportunity,” she said.
Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, said Spotify’s EQUAL Africa initiative focuses on amplifying women’s voices, with MOLIY’s recognition highlighting African women’s role in shaping global sound.
“MOLIY sits at the intersection of African pop and global culture.
“Her music reflects a fluid, expressive generation unbound by borders,” Okumu added, describing her as a powerful EQUAL Africa voice.
