The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has called on media houses in the country not to, for whatever reason, allow their roles to be compromised by the unfolding challenges confronting the country.
Oba Balogun made the charge at his Alarere residence during a congratulatory visit made to the palace by the management team of the Southwest Zonal Office of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) led by the Zonal Director, Mrs Bolatito Joseph.
The monarch, who remarked that the roles of the media in any society are very vital and sensitive, maintained that the compromise of such roles would bring dire consequence on such society.
He assured the media house of the support of the palace towards the fulfilling its obligations to the society.
The Olubadan said: “We the citizenry rely on you to set the agenda for the country leadership as mandated by your calling as professionals in the field of gathering and dissemination of information, and the consequence of your failing in that regard can only be imagined than experienced and I pray that you will not fail.”
While intimating the monarch that the visit was mandated by the Director-General of the FRCN in Abuja, Dr Monsur Liman, the Zonal Director, Mrs Bolatito Joseph, said she had led the team to felicitate with the Olubadan and pray for his long and peaceful reign.
Mrs Joseph disclosed that the visit was also to introduce some of the members of the management team that newly took position in the organisation to the monarch and seek his blessing, support and cooperation.
While assuring Oba Balogun of the unflinching support of the Ibadan National Station of the FRCN, said to be one of the nine of such across the country, the Mrs Joseph noted that Ibadan occupies a strategic place in the zone as it has two of the nine national stations the Southwest Zone parades.
