Edo State: Monday Okpebholo Takes Oath of Office As Governor

Mr. Monday Okpebholo has been sworn in as the Governor of Edo State.

The Oath of office was administered to the Governor by the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okubowa at 11:55 GMT on Tuesday.

The swearing-in ceremony is still ongoing at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the heart of the State capital Benin.

Shortly before the Governor was sworn in, the Deputy Governor of the State, Dennis Idahosa, was also sworn in.

The event is being attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Tinubu.

State Governors in attendance include Abdulerazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara, Hope Uzidinma of Imo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Baba Jude Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.

Mr. Okpebholo succeeds Godwin Obaseki, who governed the State from November 2016 to 12th November 2024.
Okpebholo is a member of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

He secured his position by defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 election, garnering 291,667 votes to Ighodalo’s 247,274.
