Morocco’s royal palace has announced that, starting next year, October 31 will be observed as a National holiday.
The day will commemorate the adoption of a United Nations Security Council resolution endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara — a move the government says “reaffirms international support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The resolution, adopted last Friday, described genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty as “a most feasible” solution to the 50-year conflict between Morocco and the Algeria-backed Polisario Front, which seeks independence for the territory.
The Moroccan government said; “the declaration reflects its commitment to advancing peace, stability, and development in the Western Sahara region while upholding dialogue within the framework of national unity.”
