The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential screening Committee, Mr. John Oyegun says all the presidential aspirants except one are willing to consider consensus.

Mr. oyegun who is also a former National Chairman of the APC stated this when he submitted his Committee’s screening report to the APC National chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He noted that the aspirants’ willingness to concede should help the party trim the number further before the Primaries scheduled for 6th to 8th of June.

We engaged every aspirant on the issue of consensus and it is a pleasant surprise that 98, 99 percent agreed that the party is supreme and that whatever the party decides with proper consultations, they were likely to accept. We had only one exception who said yes I will accept consensus so long as it is bid on me. So that gives alot of leeway in the hours, days ahead to trim down even more drastically. But finally we think we should not be afraid of a contested primary if anybody insists on a contest” Oyegun said.

Mr. Oyegun said 13 out of the 23 presidential aspirants passed the screening exercise.

According to the former APC National Chairman, all the aspirants were eligible based on their document qualifications however not all of them passed the assessment of achievements and ability to become President.

Who are you, what have you achieved, what is your understanding of nation, what do you think you can contribute to move the nation forward, it was on the basis of that that we made our final shortlist which brought the number down severely to 13. We could have cut it a little shorter but we wanted deliberately the younger elements to surface, for them to be seen, for them to be noticed and who knows?!” Oyegun said.

Mr. Oyegun also cleared speculations about former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan being a presidential aspirant of the APC by saying the former president did not participate in the screening exercise of APC Presidential aspirants.

The list of the 13 aspirants who passed the screening exercise has not yet been released by the party.

The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu expressed joy at the number of young people in APC who have shown interest to become President.

We will receive the report on each of them, we will consider it at the highest level of the party, and see how we approach the forthcoming convention which has the ultimate authority on who takes the flag of our party” Adamu said.
