MPower Ventures Secures $2.7M for Solar Expansion in Africa
Swiss-based MPower Ventures has successfully secured $2.7 million in funding to accelerate the expansion of its solar energy solutions across Africa. The investment aims to enhance access to clean, affordable energy in regions with unreliable or non-existent electricity grids.
The funding was led by the Foundation for Clean Energy and Energy Inclusion for Africa (CEI Africa), which contributed €1.1 million ($1.2 million). Additional backing came from crowdfunding platforms Klimja and Republic, along with angel investors. MPower’s crowdfunding campaigns raised a total of €2.5 million ($2.7 million), reinforcing investor confidence in the company’s mission.
Founded in 2017 by Manuel Seiffe, Greg Nau, and Michael Eschmann, MPower operates on a business-to-business (B2B) model, integrating hardware, software, and financing to facilitate the adoption of solar energy. The company’s solutions cater to households, small businesses, and agribusinesses in markets with energy deficiencies.
MPower’s business segments include:
- Solar Home Systems – Providing affordable solar energy for individual households.
- Backup Power Solutions – Offering reliable alternatives for regions with unstable electricity.
- Small-scale commercial and Industrial (C&I) Solar Projects – Helping businesses reduce energy costs and adopt sustainable power.
- E-Mobility and Productive-Use Equipment – Supporting clean energy applications in transport and agriculture.

With over 50,000 solar products sold across seven African markets—including Zambia, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe—MPower has positioned itself as a key player in Africa’s renewable energy sector.
Expansion Plans and Future Prospects
The newly acquired funding will be used to scale MPower’s distributor network, enhance its product offerings, and develop innovative financing solutions to improve solar energy adoption. The company aims to strengthen its presence in Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Ghana, and Togo, while expanding operations in Southern Africa.
MPower’s latest funding milestone highlights the growing role of technology-driven solutions in addressing Africa’s energy challenges, reinforcing the importance of sustainable investments in the clean energy transition.
