The wife of Anambra State Governor and founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, has launched the Healthy Living Garden Programme alongside a weekly physical exercise initiative in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The official launch took place at the local government headquarters in Neni.
The Healthy Living Garden Programme aims to foster an agro-revolution within local communities, creating a farmers’ market where residents can access an array of crops and vegetables at affordable prices.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage organic gardening practices, promote healthy eating habits, and reduce household expenses on groceries.
During her address, Mrs. Soludo elaborated on the models for both the garden programme and the physical exercise initiative, expressing her confidence in the local government’s ability to successfully execute these plans.
She emphasized the importance of cultivating health awareness through nutritious diets and regular physical activity.
Additionally, she urged parents and guardians to embrace traditional communal approaches to child-rearing, where the responsibility of raising children is shared within the community.
The governor’s wife added that the programme will be implemented across various local government areas, supported by the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative.
“Participating LGAs are expected to provide secondary resources to facilitate the initiative at the community level.”
Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Health, highlighted the initiative’s foundational philosophy—promoting simple and healthy lifestyle choices—aligns with the state’s goals of providing quality and affordable healthcare.
Mr. Romanus Ibekwe, Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, expressed enthusiasm for utilizing these projects to inspire a transformative change within the community.
He commended Mrs. Soludo for her visionary leadership and for championing a cause that directly impacts the well-being of residents.
Following the launch, the governor’s wife visited the council’s healthy living garden, where she performed a ceremonial planting of crops to symbolize the official commencement of the project in the area.
