The wife of the Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for the revitalizing and restoration of the aesthetic appeal and beautiful landscape of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State, Southwest Nigeria.

Mrs. Tinubu noted that the green landscape of the institution has been largely eroded, contrary to what it used to be while she was a student, and demanded urgent efforts towards regeneration of the environment to return its beauty.

Mrs. Tinubu said this at the inauguration of the 2.7km ‘Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way’, as well as the Grand Pavilion and Monument (student hostel) donated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and named after the President’s wife.

The inauguration was part of activities lined up to mark the 50th Birthday anniversary of Oba Ogunwusi.

Mrs. Tinubu subsequently donated a sum of N1 billion for the restoration of the OAU horticultural landscape.

“I will donate N1 billion for the OAU horticultural landscape to be restored. The campus used to be beautiful while I was here. Ife is crying out for help. It used to be a beautiful campus and the beauty must be restored.”

Senator Tinubu highlighted the administration’s focus on education and youth development under President Bola Tinubu, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students from accessing education.

She pointed to the launch of the National Students Loan Scheme as a key initiative and urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of the program.

“To further support education, I’ve adopted the #WeAreEqual campaign by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) in Nigeria, focusing on education,” Senator Tinubu added.

Speaking at the event, Oba Ogunwusi said the projects were named after Senator Tinubu in recognition of her contributions to the well-being of humanity.

He said Mrs. Tinubu has over the years, demonstrated outstanding leadership and a deep commitment to the cause of education, women’s empowerment, and national unity.

“The construction of a 2.7km road with glowing street Solar Lamps; the luminous, glowing, solar-powered street lamps provided a viable alternative for goal-driven Obafemi Awolowo University students during recent blackouts on campus.

“The road that will henceforth be known as ‘Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way’ is symbolic of those many paths she has opened for youths, women, and the underprivileged in our society.”
