The Nigerian government has debunks rumours that Murtala Muhammed Way in Abuja has been renamed Wole Soyinka Way.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Muhammed Idris urged citizens to disregard the misinformation, calling it “entirely false.”

According to a statement by the Minister’s media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, the renaming was not considered by the administration rather President Bola Tinubu had inaugurated a new road, Arterial Road N20, on June 4, 2024, which was named after Prof. Wole Soyinka.

It said; “For the record, on June 4, 2024, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a new road in the FCT, Arterial Road N20, which spans from Katampe to Jahi and connects the existing Murtala Muhammed Expressway (Outer Northern Expressway) to Ahmadu Bello Way (Northern Parkway).”

The statement said that during the inauguration of the new road, Arterial Road N20, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, requested President Bola Tinubu to name the road after Prof. Wole Soyinka, and the President consented.

Consequently, the Arterial Road N20 has been officially named in honor of Prof. Soyinka, while the Murtala Muhammed Expressway retains its original name, paying tribute to the revered former Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed.
