Elon Musk, SpaceX’s owner, plans to visit Indonesia to launch its satellite unit, Starlink, this coming Sunday. The launch will be done alongside the Indonesian leader on the holiday island of Bali

This was disclosed by Minister Luhut Pandjaitan, a trusted ally of President Joko Widodo.

Despite previous announcements by Indonesian officials regarding Musk’s visits to discuss events or potential investments by his automotive company Tesla, this marks his first visit in person.

He has previously addressed audiences via video link during a conference in Indonesia.

Additionally, Musk is set to speak at the World Water Forum in Bali, as stated by Luhut in a Wednesday statement.

The Starlink launch is scheduled to take place at a clinic in Bali’s capital Denpasar, where Musk was slated to sign an agreement on health sector connectivity, according to Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi.

Representatives of Starlink in Indonesia could not be immediately reached for confirmation of Musk’s visit, and the company did not promptly respond to an email sent outside of U.S. business hours.

Last week, Budi informed Reuters that Starlink had obtained a permit to offer its internet services commercially in Indonesia for retail consumers.

Indonesia anticipates that Starlink will collaborate with local network access providers to provide internet services to remote areas.
