The Nigerian government has begun payment of outstanding balance to batch A and B N-Power beneficiaries.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, announced the payment in Abuja, Nigeria.
In a Statement by the Permanent Secretary, Nura Alkali, the decision came at the end of a detailed investigation in collaboration with relevant government ministries, departments and Agencies.
The Permanent Secretary said; “the 5 months allowance arrears of the past volunteers, totaling N150,000.00 each, was currently being paid while that of the remaining 4,955 was withheld till the conclusion of further investigation.”
The account details of 14,021 volunteers were flagged in March 2020 by the Nigerian Government payment system, the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), for various reasons including beneficiaries having multiple accounts.
Other reasons for flagging the account include beneficiaries account receiving other payments such as salaries and allowances from multiple Nigerian Government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) on permanent employment or for participating in other schemes.
Alkali noted that, the acts violate the regulations guiding the N-Power volunteer programme and could amount to gross misconduct and corruption.
He further stated that “where clear violations of the agreements were established, such violators would be subjected to appropriate sanctions as stipulated by the law.”
The Permanent Secretary, however, added that the Ministry regretted the delays experienced in concluding the process, giving assurance that transparency and accountability cannot be compromised.
