The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has reassured Nigerians, especially those living with HIV that the country has a stable supply of antiretroviral drugs despite concerns about potential shortages.

In a statement released in response to recent discussions by the World Health Organization, NACA emphasized that the Federal Government has taken proactive measures to sustain HIV treatment services.

“Notably, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved $1.07 billion for healthcare sector reforms under the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) program.

“Additionally, N4.8 billion has been allocated specifically for HIV treatment, alongside an extra N300 billion earmarked for the health sector in the 2025 budget by the Nigerian Senate.”

NACA acknowledged the long-standing support from the U.S. government in Nigeria’s HIV response but stated that the recent aid pause should be seen as an opportunity for Nigeria to mobilize resources, take ownership, and strengthen the sustainability of HIV treatment and prevention programs.

The Director-General of NACA, Dr. Temitope Ilori, assured the public that there is no current shortage of HIV drugs or essential medical consumables.

“Our treatment centers and pharmacies remain stocked with antiretroviral drugs, ensuring uninterrupted services for testing, prevention, and treatment,” she said.

NACA reaffirmed its commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS and ensuring access to quality prevention, treatment, and care services for all Nigerians.
