The event, which doubled as an end-of-year celebration, highlighted the strides made in HIV prevention, treatment, and awareness, while appreciating media organizations for their unwavering support.

In her address, the Director-General of NACA, Dr. Temitope Ilori, expressed profound gratitude to media professionals for their contributions to NACA’s successes throughout the year.

Reflecting on her appointment in March 2024, Dr. Ilori noted the overwhelming global interest in the agency’s activities, which she credited to the robust media collaboration.

“Thanks to you, we are always in the news. You’ve revived and rejuvenated the public’s awareness about NACA’s mission”. She said.

Dr. Ilori emphasized the pivotal role of the media in disseminating information about HIV prevention and treatment, adding that their efforts have been instrumental in advancing the goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. “The gospel of HIV prevention is all about media. Without you, the information wouldn’t reach the public”. She remarked.

The DG also highlighted key milestones achieved by NACA in 2024, including the successful Prevention Conference in May, the acceleration of mother-to-child HIV prevention efforts, and extensive partnerships with traditional rulers, faith-based organizations, and sister agencies.

She commended the media for covering these activities extensively and ensuring the messages reached the grassroots.

Representatives from prominent media outlets such as Channels TV, NTA, Voice of Nigeria, The Punch, and Daily Trust were in attendance, among others.

The DG reiterated NACA’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the media, urging them to remain steadfast in their support. “We value you so much and look forward to more enduring partnerships in the years ahead”. She added.

The event also featured awards recognizing outstanding media contributions to HIV/AIDS awareness, as well as performances and festivities marking the close of 2024.

Dr. Ilori called on everyone present to celebrate the achievements of the year and remain motivated for the challenges ahead.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Protocol at NACA Mrs. Toyin Aderibigbe, warmly welcomed guests and expressed gratitude for the media’s unwavering support. “Tonight, we come together not only to celebrate the end of another successful year but also to honor the important partnership we share with you the media”. She said.

Mrs. Aderibigbe emphasized the critical role of media professionals in amplifying NACA’s campaigns and programmes, noting their impact on public awareness and education. “The milestones we celebrate today would not have been possible without your impactful reporting and dedication,” she remarked, highlighting the media’s influence in advancing HIV response efforts across the country.

She also reflected on the achievements of 2024, crediting the media for its role in ensuring the success of NACA’s initiatives. “Your support and commitment to amplifying the stories, campaigns, and programmes on HIV response in Nigeria have been instrumental in advancing our mission to combat HIV/AIDS and improve public health,” Mrs. Aderibigbe noted.

The evening was a blend of celebration and reflection, as Mrs. Aderibigbe urged all attendees to look forward to an even stronger partnership in 2025.

“As we reflect on the progress we’ve made together, let us also look ahead to an even more impactful partnership in the year ahead,” she added.

The event reaffirmed NACA’s determination to work with its media partners to ensure a Nigeria free of AIDS, with a strong focus on prevention, treatment, and public education in the coming years.
