Nadal’s injury comeback foiled by Murray

Spanish clay court legend Rafael Nadal saw his injury comeback halted at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

He lost in straight sets to Briton and former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray 6-3 7-5 in Abu Dhabi.

The match was 35-year-old Nadal’s first since a foot injury ruled him out of the final months of the 2021 season.

Murray will face Russian world number five Andrey Rublev in the final on Saturday.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Murray and Spaniard Nadal have not faced each other on court since the Madrid Masters semi-final in 2016.
