The 119 Composite Group of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Sokoto has organised a one-day Chief of Air Staff Parley with veterans/retired personnel in Sokoto State, North West Nigeria.
The parley is aimed at reconnecting, learning, interacting, and sharing ideas between the serving and retired personnel of NAF.
Addressing the veterans at the parley, the Commander of 119 Composite Group, Group Captain Umar Salihu Maibuhu, said the programme was initiated by the Chief of Air Staff in 2024 to give the retired personnel a sense of belonging.
He said the Parley is more than a routine engagement, but reaffirmation of the Nigerian Air Force’s enduring respect for its veterans, whose sacrifices, dedication, and legacy remain a foundation for the past achievements and current progress of NAF.
He said their years of service and contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian Air Force can not be overestimated.
He noted the NAF would continue to engage them to enable them to contribute their quota as they have been doing during their active service.
“From decades of operational excellence to training, administration, and leadership, you laid the bricks on which the Nigerian Air Force today stands. You exemplified discipline, courage, integrity, and professionalism during your active service, and you will continue to be beacons of integrity and wisdom in retirement,” Group Captain Maibuhu said.

He added that the event is a reminder that service with the nation does not end with retirement; it simply evolves. We believe strongly in the value of your insight.”
He expressed appreciation on behalf of the 119 composite group to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Bala Abubakar, for his vision in introducing and sustaining the veterans’ engagement initiative.
Group Captain Umar Salihu Maibuhu further commended the retired personnel for honouring their invitation, and assured them of various initiatives coming for their improved welfare.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Veterans, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara Chapter, Wing Commander Adamu Labbo Jega (Rtd), praised the Chief of Air Staff for the initiative.
The highlight of the parley was Health Talks by Ag. Officer-in-Charge of medical, 119 composite group, flying Lieutenant Joseph Yanshak Haggai, Veterans Leadership and Personal Development by Squadron Leader, Garba Usman (Rtd), as well as presentations of souvenirs.
