NAFDAC DG receives Africa’s Medical Products Regulation Award

The Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, has been honoured with the Africa’s Medical Products Regulation Award 2023.

In a statement by NAFDAC, she was presented with the award by the African Union Development Agency and the World Health Organisation at the 6th Biennial Scientific Conference on Medical Products Regulation in Africa, held in Cairo, Egypt from December 5 – 7.

The award was received by the Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer of the agency, Asmau Abubakar.

According to the statement, AUDA-NEPAD and WHO applauded the transformative leadership of the NAFDAC DG.

Based on the statement, the honour highlighted the visionary approach of Adeyeye and recognised her pioneering initiatives such as the attainment of ML3 within four years.

The international organisations also recognised Adeyeye for using digital tools like the Med Safety App for ADR reporting and GS1-driven traceability for tracking more than one and half million secondary packages of COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic for supply chain visibility.

The statement further pointed out that the commendation emphasises NAFDAC’s groundbreaking efforts in combatting substandard and fake medical products and reinforcing the agency’s dedication to ensuring the safety and authenticity of medicinal products in Africa.
