NAFDAC, NCS renews partnership on public health, national security

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has renewed its working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance intelligence sharing and collaboration.

The MoU, signed on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at the Comptroller-General of Customs’ Conference in Abuja, marks a significant stride in safeguarding public health and national security.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated in a statement on Friday, that the development was crucial for ensuring the safety and quality of regulated products, including food, drugs, and healthcare items consumed by Nigerians.

She emphasised that the collaboration was vital for ensuring that regulated products met quality standards.

“The partnership will also help prevent the influx of illicit pharmaceutical products and other harmful substances into Nigeria.”

It quoted NCS boss Adewale Adeniyi as expressing commitment to collaborating with NAFDAC to address the problem of illicit pharmaceutical products in Nigeria.

If further quoted him as directing NCS officers to work closely with NAFDAC to share intelligence and ensure the safety of Nigerians, particularly children, and promote a drug-free Nigeria.
