NAFDAC’s North-East Coordinator, Mr Kenneth Azikiwe, stated this during the stakeholders’ forum on Tuesday in Gombe.

He said the online registration was part of the Agency’s mandate to ensure faster and easy process as well as reduce the stress associated with frequent visit to its offices.

“The automated registration gives an applicant the opportunity to monitor the registration processes, payment and know the status of registered products. The Agency is committed towards ensuring the standard and quality of its regulated products,” he said.

He said the Agency has upscaled campaign on optimal infant and child nutrition emphasing importance of the six months exclusive breastfeeding, and two years breastfeeding to enable the child brain to develop.

According to Azikiwe, it is imperative for the nursing mothers to breastfeed their children exclusively for six months, and thereafter adapt complementary feeding.

“NAFDAC intends to improve the knowledge, practice and attitude of Nigerians towards exclusive breastfeeding. There is no food like the breast milk, and it has a great significance to the infant,” he said.

While urging Nigerians to be wary of drug hawkers, Azikiwe warned fruit and palm oil sellers against the application of calcium carbide to artificially ripen the produce or adulterating their products.

One of the participants, Adamu Ahmed lauded the exercise. Adamu, who is also the Secretary, Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria, said the exercise would create awareness among its members on best health practices.
