According to the organisers, the region was selected because of its rich cultural history, as well as its struggles to achieve creative and economic success and stability, despite providing a huge part of Nigeria’s GDP.
The founder of BHM, Ayeni Adekunle, said; “Many do not know that a lot of the African pop music dominating the world right now also comes from there (Burna Boy is from Rivers State). We want to showcase the music, food, fashion, and literature from a place many only previously associated with oil and violence.”
The Chief Executive Officer of Buckwyld Media Network, Efe Omorogbe said; “The Niger Delta region remains the premiere incubator for talents who have continually shaped the course of creative enterprise in Nigeria.”
