The National Agency For The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP, says all is set to launch NAPTIP Alert, a special social media alert programmed to provide information to social media users within 160kilomters radius of any location where an abduction occurred.
The Director-General of NAPTIP, Dr Waziri Azi disclosed this to Voice of Nigeria during the first stage of Inter-University Debate program of the agency.

She said NAPTIP is presently partnering with the Facebook and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in other to aid prosecution and investigation of cases.
“As part of partnership on the 28th of September we will be launching NAPTIP Alert, when a child is abducted we will then release information on the news-feed of Facebook users within 160kilometre radius of where the child is stolen.”
Dr. Waziri-Azi further disclosed that NAPTIP has set up an in-house online tracking unit to trail issues of cyber crimes and it is currently building capacity of it officers to track activities of online traffickers.
The NAPTIP Director General said the inter-university debate was one of the activities lined up for the year 2022 commemorations, “the World Day Against Trafficking In Persons is July 30 and is a day set aside to raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking ,the promotion and protection of their rights and the day will call for mobilisation of political will and resources to address the global problem.”
She added that the 2022 theme : ‘The Use and Abuse of Technology, is timely “considering the fact that that human traffickers now operate online as much as they operate offline”
