The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has promised to collaborate effectively with the Cross River State Government to end trafficking in persons and illegal migration.

The Director-General of the agency, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim made the promise when she played host to the Senior Special Assistant to Cross River State Governor on Humanitarian Affairs, Martha Agba in her office.

She acknowledged the efforts of the Cross River Governor, Professor Ben Ayade to prohibit the use of the state’s border routes, especially its waterways to traffic persons out of the country.

She also noted “I heard that the governor launched a special security operation in the effort to rid Cross River of criminalities. This is very proactive because of the effect on the safety of lives and property as well as strengthening border security especially the waterways where these traffickers use often. I commend the government of Cross River State and promise to continue to partner with you to end human trafficking.”

The Director-General said the efforts of the Ayade led administration aligns with that of NAPTIP, which remains an agency committed to ensure traffickers are made to face the wrath of the law.

She further stated, “Calabar is well known for its fame and tourist attractions. We are considering building a rehab center for victims where they can undergo training and other rehabilitation and mentorship processes before they can be reintegrated to contribute to society.”

More Collaborations

In her remark, Martha Agba thanked the NAPTIP boss for her unflinching commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating survivors of trafficking and solicited further collaborations towards safeguarding intending migrants.

“I am here to thank you for all you have done to protect mankind. Cross River State is at the forefront of fighting traffickers. Governor Ben Ayade sees trafficking in persons as a very serious crime and has set up monitoring teams to curb trafficking. I am here to see how we can work with your agency to curb this menace, which poses a threat to humanity,” Agba stated.

The meeting climaxed with the signing of “Ayade Humanitarian Placard,” an indication that the agency committed to the governor’s campaign to end human trafficking in Cross River State.
