Nasarawa Assembly Fumes, Gives Two Weeks Ultimatum To PowerGen Manager

Nasarawa State House of Assembly has given a two weeks ultimatum to the Area Manager of PowerGen Interconnected Energy Ltd handling the power project in Toto Local Government Area of the State to appear in person before the House.

The Speaker of the House Hon. Danladi Jatau, gave the directive after a representative of the Power Gen Interconnected Ltd, Mr John Ufeoshi appeared on the floor of the House today.

The Speaker said the invitation extended to the Area Manager was to enable him explain to the House about the power project in Toto Local Government Area.

“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has empowered us to invite anybody concerning issues of public importance.

We discovered that the Area Manager of PowerGen did not appear in person but sent a representative.

“We are again giving the Area Manager of PowerGen Interconnected Energy LTD a time frame to appear before the House in person within two weeks,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker also said that the invitation to the Area Manager was to ensure that the people of Toto LGA and its environs get power supply.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Area Manager of PowerGen Interconnected Energy Ltd, Mr John Ufeoshi, told the lawmakers that he would refer any question he might not be able to answer to the Area Manager.

Earlier, Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, and Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa raised the issue that it was an abuse to the institution for the Area Manager to send a representative and the lawmakers unanimously agreed with their submissions.

The Speaker of Nasarawa State Assembly Hon. Danladi Jatau had last month directed the Area Manager of PowerGen Interconnected Energy Ltd. Toto Local Government Area to appear before the House on 21st May 2024 with all the necessary documents that authorized the company to operate in the area.
