The Nasarawa State Government has called for increased investment in women and girls, describing it as a strategic pathway to achieving sustainable development and economic prosperity for the state.
Speaking during a press briefing in commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD), the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Mrs. Hauwa Samuel Jugbo emphasised on the need of empowering women as a matter of justice and strategic importance.
She highlighted the visionary leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, noting that his administration remains steadfast in promoting the welfare, protection, and economic empowerment of women across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Mrs Jugbo further said that despite the resilience shown by women in sectors such as agriculture, commerce, and public service, she acknowledged that significant hurdles remains.
Highlighting the challenges faced by women, which include limited access to finance, restricted economic opportunities, and deep-seated socio-cultural barriers.
The Ministry has intensified its crackdown on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
“The government has intensified efforts in protecting women and girls from gender-based violence through awareness campaigns, policy advocacy, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to strengthen support systems for survivors,” the Commissioner stated.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the Commissioner said that,
“This theme underscores a simple but powerful truth: when societies invest in women and girls, the benefits extend to families, communities, and the entire nation”.
Mrs Jugbo further took a personal turn urging husbands and family members to play a more active role in supporting the women in their lives.
“Families and communities are encouraged to show appreciation and support for the women in their lives. In particular, husbands and family members are encouraged to value, respect, and support the women who play indispensable roles in sustaining our homes and nurturing future generations,” she emphasised.
