Nasarawa State distributes instructional materials to 418 Secondary Schools

The Nasarawa State Government has distributed instructional materials worth over N70 million to 418 public secondary schools across the State.
The Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology Fatu Sabo, disclosed this during the distribution of the items in Lafia the state’s capital.
Mrs Fatu Sabo explained that the items include; science equipment, technical equipment, English, Mathematics, and textbooks in major subjects and teaching aid.
According to the Commissioner, the distribution of the items was in fulfilment of the promises of Governor Abdullahi Sule to improve the quality of education.
She commended the Governor for giving over 30 per cent of the state’s 2021 budget to the education sector adding that the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration in the last two years has demonstrated determination to improve the quality of education to meet global standards.
The Commissioner said that the ministry is currently carrying out massive rehabilitation of schools and construction of parameters fencing to protect schools lands from encroachment.
She also said that in 2020, the government had distributed bed and mattresses, chairs, mosquito nets, COVID-19 protective kids, upkeep to Chief Inspectors of Education and Science and Technical equipment to the public schools including private schools.
Mrs Sabo further said that the government is feeding students from the 28 boarding schools in the state.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the Governor had employed 2, 250 teachers to improve the number of teachers given the spread of public schools and to reduce the rate of unemployment.
According to her, the ministry has already set up the machinery to monitor the items against diversion and warned that anyone caught diverting the items would face serious disciplinary action.
The Inspector of Education of Mada Station Area Office, Alaku Namo, commended the Governor and Commissioner for the transformation of the sector.
He said they would distribute the items to all schools under their supervision and monitor to ensure that Principals allow teachers to make use of them for the benefit of the students.
