The Nasarawa State Deaf Football Team defended the National Deaf Football Championship title after beating their Kaduna State counterparts 1-0, at the New Jos International Stadium in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
Chinonye Uchechi scored the only goal ensuring Nasarawa State bravely defended the trophy they won at the last championship which held in 2018, Abuja.
En route to the final of the 2025 edition of the tournament, the Coach Jafaru Umar-tutored Team Nasarawa State had beaten Adamawa, Kebbi, Niger, and Plateau (hosts) States respectively.
The tournament which featured ten States, including Nasarawa, Rivers, Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, hosts, Plateau, Adamawa, Bauchi, and FCT, Abuja, began on 19th November, 2025, across various centres in Jos, Plateau State. Nasarawa State has won three out of the six editions of the tournament.
Secretary of the Nasarawa State Special Sports, Patricia David Oshuwayine, represented the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development at the tournament.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, extended heartfelt congratulations to the State Deaf Football Team following their historic victory at the 6th edition of the Championship.

“Few weeks ago, I met with the team members at their closed camp in Lafia, prior to the tournament’s kick-off and boosted their morale to go all out and make Governor Abdullahi Sule and State proud,” Hon. Yakubu said.
“Today, Governor Abdullahi Sule and the entire State are proud of the team’s outstanding performance. Our gallant athletes competed against top teams from across the country and ultimately emerged victorious, which is the mark of a true champion”.
“We promise the latest National Champions a rousing reception in Lafia, the State Capital”, the Commissioner disclosed.
