NASENI Introduces Inter-Institute Patronage Policy to Boost Commercialisation

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has introduced a new inter-institute patronage policy aimed at driving the commercialisation of its products, enhancing internal validation, and strengthening the agency’s position in the market.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, NASENI’s Director of Information, Mr Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, announced that the policy had been signed by the agency’s Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Mr Khalil Halilu.

Ayeoyenikan explained that the policy is designed to enhance the agency’s commercialisation strategies by directing all development institutes under NASENI to prioritise patronising NASENI-manufactured products. He noted that this initiative aims to foster collaboration and facilitate the full commercialisation of the agency’s innovations.

“The policy approved by the EVC highlights the importance of internal endorsement and usage of the agency’s products to build market credibility and strengthen internal collaboration,” Ayeoyenikan stated.

According to him, the directive has been formally communicated to the acting Managing Directors and Overseeing Officers of NASENI Development Institutes nationwide through a memo.

The new directive requires NASENI’s 11 development institutes, as well as any emerging ones, to first procure technologies, machines, equipment, and innovations developed within the agency before making them available to external markets, in accordance with procurement laws.

“According to the circular, the new commercialisation drive aims to enhance inter-institute collaboration to support the commercialisation of innovations developed within NASENI institutes,” Ayeoyenikan added.

The new policy encourages active promotion, integration, and utilisation of NASENI-developed products, helping to refine them through real-world applications before introducing them to external markets.

Key Components of the Policy

  • Mandatory Product Integration – All institutes must prioritise the procurement of NASENI-developed products.
  • Inter-Institute Product Showcases – Bi-annual events will be organised for institutes to display innovations, exchange insights, and explore integration opportunities.
  • Urban Showrooms – Institutes are encouraged to establish mini-showrooms in key urban areas to exhibit both their own products and other NASENI innovations.
  • Internal Pilots and Testing – Institutes will implement pilot programmes to test products in real-world settings, providing critical feedback for further refinement.
  • Cross-Institute Training – Training sessions will be conducted across institutes to equip staff with the necessary skills to use and promote products developed by other NASENI units.
  • Internal Endorsement and Market Credibility – NASENI’s leadership will actively endorse the usage of its products, enhancing their credibility in external markets.
  • Reporting and Evaluation – A review mechanism will be established to monitor the adoption of products, identify challenges, and ensure continuous improvement.
