National Assembly adjourns plenary to mourn Colleagues

The Nigerian National Assembly has adjourned plenary for one week to honour two lawmakers who died during the Easter break.

Mr. Haruna Murtala, a Reps member from Plateau State died in an accident on 3rd April, while Mr. Sulaiman Aliyu Lere, from Kaduna State died on 6th April after brief illness.

Speaking before the adjournment in their separate Chamber, the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan and Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, described the two lawmakers as ‘hardworking, dedicated and honest politicians who died when their services were needed the most.’

The House Leader, Mr. Alhassan Doguwa, while moving the motion for the adjournment of the plenary at the House of Representatives, said ”the two members were active members of the 9th Assembly, whose contribution to National Development were immeasurable.”
