National Economic Council Forms Committee To Review Electricity Sector

The National Economic Council in Nigeria has set up an ad hoc committee to review the electricity sector and the participation of subnational structure of the federation.
Following the recent devolution of the electricity sector by the new law, the committee is to explore ways to ramp up activities through coordination from the NEC.
The NEC at its meeting on Thursday reviewed the state of the nation’s electricity sector and resolved to engage subnational structures to address current challenges in the sector,
The NEC sought to build on the recent devolution of the electricity sector and its movement into the concurrent legislative list which empowers state governments to regulate the sector in their respective areas.
Governors from the South West unanimously nominated Governor Ademola Adeleke as the chairman representing the South West zone.
Governors who are members of NEC Ad-hoc Committee on National Electrification are: Cross Rivers State Governor Bassey Otu– Chairman, South-South; Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda– Chairman; North-West, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya– Chairman, North-East; Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma– Chairman, South-East; Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang– Chairman, North-Central.
