President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for its achievements in addressing the country’s security challenges.
In a message delivered at the NSCDC’s Quarterly Security Council Meeting with Commandants in Abuja, President Tinubu recognized the Corps’ significant contributions to combating crime, including efforts in curbing vandalism, illegal mining, crude oil theft, farmer-herder conflicts, and the protection of national critical assets.
The President’s message, conveyed by the NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Audi, emphasized the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of NSCDC personnel and urged them to continue delivering their best in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
Also addressing the meeting, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for the Corps. He highlighted the NSCDC’s outstanding performance in discharging its constitutional duties, stating that the government remains committed to providing the necessary encouragement and resources to enhance their operations.
In his remarks to the Commandants, Professor Audi described the Quarterly Council Meeting as a vital platform to assess performance, identify challenges, and strategize for improved service delivery. He stressed the need for greater synergy with other security agencies, noting that criminal elements are constantly evolving their tactics and must be countered effectively.
He further noted that the Corps has made notable progress, particularly in the mining sector, where their efforts have contributed to increased government revenue and the closure of over 200 illegal mining sites nationwide.
The event concluded with the presentation of operational vehicles to the Zonal Offices of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, further equipping the Corps to carry out its mandate.
