He disclosed this in an interview with News Men on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mohammad explained that the mandate of the troupe was to ensure that its productions were geared towards national inspiration and development, to curtail negative foreign influence which would create friction among citizens.
“Therefore, NTN has been at the forefront of fighting the retrogressive cultures of the so-called ‘developed nations’ which are negative to our development,” artistic director said.
According to him, Nigeria desires the unity of its citizens, as well as peace, justice, and patriotism among others.
“These are geared towards national development, to curtail negative foreign influence which will create friction among us.
” We all know that some attitudes informed by Nigerians, especially the youths are as a result of acculturation through the foreign media.
” The troupe, in all its productions has ensured that those ethos which cultivate national consciousness are embedded.
” For instance, we put up ‘String’ last year in Lagos and Abuja to enlighten citizens, especially the youths, who think Nigeria’s independence was received on a platter of gold,” he said.
Mohammad said that the ‘String’ event featured a presentation of Nigeria’s history from pre-independence to independence.
”In that event, we highlighted both the intellectual and political struggles that our founding fathers used to pressurise the British to give us our independence.
”We also developed a concept #NigeriaFirst to engage the populace in reflecting on the importance of our nation-state.
“This borders on the fact that there has to be a country for everyone to aspire to what he or she wants to be,” he said.
