National Women Centre Renamed Maryam Babangida Centre

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has performed the official renaming of the National Women Development Center to the Maryam Babangida National Center for Women Development.

Performing the function on Tuesday, the First lady noted the sterling contributions of the late Mrs Maryam Babangida to the lives of Nigerian women especially at the grassroots, through her pet programme, Better Life for Rural dwellers.

Mrs Tinubu described Mrs Babangida as an icon, who redefined the scope of women’s participation in national development through the National Center for Women Development.

The wife of the President said that she was at the Ninth National Assembly when the bill for the renaming of the center was passed and assented into law and now she has decided to actualise it by performing the actual renaming as the First Lady of the Federation.

Mrs Tinubu commended the Director General of the Center, Hajia Asabe Bashir and her management staff for taking the bold step for the renaming of the center and also all the female National Assembly member, who played leading roles in the legislative struggle for the renaming of the center.

 

The representative of the Babangida Family, son of late Mrs Babangida, Mohammed Babangida and his brother, Aminu, thanked Mrs Tinubu for the honor done their late mother.

Mohammed extended the appreciation to all the women who were contributory to the actualization of the renaming of the center.

Also present at the event were the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima and wives of State Governors amongst others.
