The medical outreach, a quarterly health intervention programme by the navy, provided variety of diagnosis and treatments for the residents.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, the Commander, NNS Victory, Commodore Ajomabi Oride, said that the exercise was the navy’s way of supporting the civil populace.
Oride further said that the health programme was in line with the directive of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla.
Oride stated that navy commands across the country had been mandated to positively affect the lives of the people in their host communities.
“We are also urged to implement corporate social responsibility programmes in the communities around our areas of operation.
“With the exercise, we hope that the residents of our host communities will become healthier, we hope that we shall bond better, and win their support,” he said.
He reiterated the commitment of the navy to embark on more people oriented programmes for its host communities in Cross River.
The commander stated that the campaign against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta would not be effective without the support of the communities.
He urged residents of navy host communities to support the force with credible information that would enable it to tackle crime and insecurity.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Comfort Monday, thanked the navy for the intervention, describing it as a good omen to the community.
“This kind of intervention has not happened in our community for a very long time, we appreciate this gesture from the depth of our hearts,” she said.
The residents of the community were given free medical tests and treatments for different ailments. Free eye glasses were given to people with visual challenges.
