The Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA is holding a 3-day retreat in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, North Central, Nigeria.
The retreat which started today, Wednesday, 26th, July will end on Friday, 28th of the same month.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Chairman, Organising Committee, Ilorin Bar Retreat , Prof Bashir Omipidan.
According to the programme of event, the first day is arrival and registration between 2-5 pm and a cocktail party is scheduled for 5~7pm which will be graced by the Chairman of the Event, Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN.
On the second day, the statement said that there were lots of events scheduled to hold which would include morning walk at 6am-7am, Breakfast at 8am – 9:30 am while the first session of the program will commence where the Chairman, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN , the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin is expected to grace.
The Keynote Speaker, Mallam Yusuf Ali, SAN would be addressing the guests on the theme; Electioneering and Governance in Nigeria: THE ROLE OF THE BAR AND THE BENCH at 10:00am – 12:30 noon.
The second session will be chaired by Professor K.I Adams and the speaker, Professor J.O Olatoke, SAN would be speaking on the topic; An overview of the 2022 electoral Act:appraising the provisions relating to IREV and BVAS at 12:30pm – 1:30pm.
The statement also stated that in between the third session, there would be goodwill messages, lunch break and prayer at 1:30pm – 2:25pm and the third session would start immediately at 2:30pm to 3:30pm and chaired by Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.
A round table discussion among NBA members on Lawyers welfarism will also take the stage and there would be games (football, ludo etc.) at 4pm-6pm and by 7pm, there would be dinner.
On the last day of the event (28th, July, 2023), the statement explained that there would be a morning walk at 6am-7am which will be chaired by Alhaji Abdulfatah Muhammed Bello, Director Civil Litigation, Ministry of Justice, Kwara State.
The Speaker at the event, K. K Eleja, SAN would be talking about: “Role of Lawyers in Elections, need to curb forum shopping in election matters”.
