NBA Law Week: Jigawa Governor Reiterates Commitment to Justice Reforms

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has officially opened the 2025 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Jigawa State branch, urging legal practitioners to uphold ethical standards and work towards faster justice delivery across the state.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Dutse, the state capital, the governor commended the NBA’s leadership for fostering unity, professionalism, and a strong voice for the legal community in Jigawa and beyond.

He said, “for months, I have followed with keen interest how you have organized this branch into a formidable platform serving the positive interests of the legal profession,”. “Your efforts in promoting the rule of law, ensuring access to justice for all including the less privileged and facilitating smooth dispensation of justice in the state are truly commendable.”

He noted that the Law Week with the theme “Upholding Justice Through Ethical Advocacy”, was timely, as it reinforces the importance of integrity in legal practice and discourages practices that could undermine justice.

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to judicial reforms, Governor Namadi listed initiatives such as the establishment of Community Law Centres, the introduction of Zauren Sulhu, plans to expand Citizen Rights Units in judicial divisions, and other measures aimed at enhancing access to justice.

He called on stakeholders in the justice sector to discharge their duties with integrity, accountability, and a sense of divine responsibility, describing God as “Al-Adl, the Utterly Just, and Al-Hakam, the Ultimate Judge and Arbiter.”

Governor Namadi expressed hope that, the NBA deliberations would strengthen ethical standards and further improve justice delivery in Jigawa State.
