The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended a ValueJet pilot and co-pilot following a breach of aviation safety protocols at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja (Domestic Terminal) on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Preliminary findings revealed that the pilot commenced departure procedures from the designated bay without securing the mandatory pre-departure clearance.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.
“This reckless action endangered the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, contravening established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards,” the Authority said.
Describing the incident as a grave violation, the NCAA announced the immediate suspension of the licences of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba.
“Consequently, the Authority has taken immediate enforcement action by suspending the licences of the pilot, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, with immediate effect,” the statement added.
The NCAA said the suspension will remain in place pending the outcome of a full investigation.
“The Authority hereby reaffirms its commitment to safety,” it stated.
