NCC Tariff Hike Leads to Starlink Price Rise
In response to reports that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is expected to authorise an increase in telecom operators’ tariffs, Starlink has raised its regular subscription pricing to N75,000 once more.
This comes weeks after the ISP increased the cost of its basic subscription by 97.37% to N75,000, citing excessive inflation as the reason.
The NCC questioned the increase noting it had not approved the hike causing Starlink to restore to status quo.
However, after months of lobbying by operators who are reporting losses and have ceased investing, there are signs that the regulator would authorise the telecom sector’s first pricing raise in ten years.
It is anticipated that this rate increase will benefit all carriers, including Starlink.
In a new email to customers, the satellite internet provider announced its new tariff hike.
“These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink,” the internet provider said.
The ordinary subscription tier, which was previously N38,000, would now cost N75,000 under the revised pricing structure.
The monthly fee of mobile regional roaming will now be N170,000, and mobile worldwide roaming will now cost N717,000.
For current customers, the new prices will go into force on January 27, 2025; however, they will go into effect right away for new consumers.

After halting orders in November, the corporation is anticipated to resume supplying its kits nationwide with the aid of this new hike.
“We’re committed to providing high-speed internet in Nigeria and are working closely with regulators to make adjustments that will improve the customer experience. Until these changes are approved, we are placing new residential orders on hold,” the company said in November.
