NCC tasks Corps members on discipline, assures of support

The Nigerian Communictions Communication,NCC  had charged corps members to be discipline and donated hundred pieces of mattresses to  the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Kubwa, Abuja.

The Executive Vice Chairman,NCC,Professor Umar Dambatta who gave the advise,said the Commission was here to help replace some of the items that were stolen from the the camp during the ENDSARS protest where some miscreants came and vandalized the camp.

Represented by the, Director Public Affairs,NCC,Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, Professor Danbatta noted  that the Commission had supported the youth through various projects and activities aimed at making them self-reliant and enhancing their contribution to the economy, adding that one of such programmes was the young innovators.

“We are here today to share in your loss and to support the replacement of some of the items carted away by hoodlums during the End SARS protests of October 27, 2020”

“The Commission is here to present you with a hundred pieces of Mattresses for the use of the Corp members. This act is one out of the Commission’s numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” He stated

Danbatta reiterated that “the youth as we know, plays a great role in national building. They contribute to national development and are responsible for bringing social reforms. As the saying goes, the youth of a countrys the future of a country.

He said that NCC as the foremost regulator in Nigeria’s telecom industry has been supporting the youth through various projects and activities aimed at making them self-reliant and enhancing their contribution to the economy.One of such programmes is the young innovators .

While emphasizing on the Contribution of Telecoms industry the Nation,Danbatta said it has opened up opportunities for business to thrive.

‘It is a well-known fact that Telecommunication services are critical to the overall socio-economic well-being of every economy.It provides a technological foundation for societal communications and plays a critical role in the fundamental operations of a society-from business to government to families. It has become the centre of our everyday life”

“Businesses have particularly taken advantage of sophisticated telecom systems such as video conferencing, video calling and on-line marketing to improve productivity, better customer services and increased growth which invariably have boosted the economy.”

He also used the opportunity to caution telecoms consumers against opening strange emails. “The Commission advices all consumers not to open emails not familiar to them, never to post personal identification information online or save password online”.

“Note also that your Bank will never ask you your personal detail via the internet. In the event of any unfortunate circumstance leading to infiltration of your personal platforms, please contact your bankers immediately to freeze your account and also inform your mobile service provider for further actions’

On the use the national emergency number (112), He explained that , “All telecom operators are mandated to route emergency calls through the dedicated three-digit Toll Free Number, 112, from each state to the emergency centre within that state.

The call center agents, who are resident in the ECC will then process the distress call and contact the relevant Emergency Response Agency (e.g. Fire Service, Police, FRSC, Ambulance, etc.) whose primary duty is to handle the case.
Thirty-six centres and the FCT have been built and provided with equipment across the nation in all six geopolitical zones. So far Nineteen (19) of the ECCs are fully operational.” He
said

He urged the youth to be ambassadors of NCC by sharing information received for the benefit of other telecom consumers and should be disciplined as they go to their various places of primary assignments.

While appreciating the NCC on behave of Director General, NYSC, the FCT Coordinator, Mr Suleiman Abdul,
said the Commission lived to their expectations and delivered.

Abdul said that the NYSC made efforts to reach out to corporate organisations for support after the endsars protesters invaded, destroyed and looted valuable facilities in the camp.

“The miscreant left us devastated but undaunted as we pick up the pieces and commence the process of replacing some of the stolen items.I am happy to receive one hundred mattresses donated by NCC to alleviate the gaps created by the miscreants.The generosity of the NCC is coming at a time it is needed most especially with the orientation camp on session,” He added.

Meanwhile,a Corps member, Tsenyon Dariem, appealed to the NCC and telecom service providers to provide free internet services for the camp; saying, “It will be very good if the NCC and telecom service providers can provide this orientation camp with free internet WiFi so that corps members can have free internet while in camp.”
One of the highlight of the visit was the  a raffle draw, conducted by the NCC where ten Corps members won smart phones .

Oluchukwu Okafor who is also a corps member,  said that the gesture was a welcomed development and it would help those still coming to camp, as this was one of the major facility lacking in the camp
