Dr. Adetifa said that the purpose of the visit was to fortify the state’s response to the outbreak and ensure effective preparedness.

Bauchi State has been a consistent concern since 2022, consistently ranking among the top three states reporting the highest number of Lassa Fever cases.

“In 2023 alone, the state recorded 945 suspected cases, with 160 confirmed cases and 33 confirmed deaths. The urgency of the situation prompted the high-level courtesy visit to key healthcare institutions in the state,” he said.

During his visit, Dr. Adetifa engaged with healthcare professionals, local authorities, and other stakeholders to assess the current state of preparedness and identify areas that require immediate attention.

“The collaborative effort aims to strengthen Bauchi’s healthcare system, enhance surveillance measures, and bolster the capacity to manage and control Lassa Fever outbreaks,” he added.

The NCDC Director General expressed commitment to providing necessary support, including medical supplies, personnel, and technical assistance to ensure a robust response to the increasing cases in Bauchi.

“This visit underscores the NCDC’s dedication to curbing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting the health and well-being of the Nigerian population,” he said.

In response to Dr. Adetifa’s visit, the Bauchi State health authorities have intensified efforts to implement preventive measures, conduct public awareness campaigns, and enhance community engagement.

The Bauchi state authorities said, “The collaborative approach between the NCDC and state is a testament to the proactive stance in addressing public health emergencies, highlighting the importance of a unified front in the fight against infectious diseases.”
