The Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Kosmus Akighir, has conveyed the commission’s intention to engage in collaborative efforts with state governors to advance development initiatives within the region.

Akighir made the statement when members of the commission paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Nasarawa State at Government House in Lafia, the state capital.

He explained that the commission would collaborate with governors and critical stakeholders across the North Central to raise living standards and tackle poverty.

According to him, the support and partnership of governors are vital to achieving the commission’s mandate.

“We want to appreciate you for providing an office for us to start. We need some vehicles for our operational deficiency,” the chairman said.

Akighir also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his developmental strides, noting that many of the projects completed in Nasarawa State align with the commission’s mandate.

Governor’s Response

In his response, Governor Sule described the visit as historic, marking the commencement of NCDC’s operations.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to establishing the commission.

“Let me first use the opportunity to express great appreciation to Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his commitment to ensuring the establishment of NCDC,” he said.

The governor also thanked his colleagues for supporting the commission’s take-off while apologising for their absence at the event.

“Let me also use the opportunity to thank my colleagues, the governors, for coming together to ensure that the take-off is as smooth as possible,” Sule said.

Governor Sule further emphasised the need for state governments to support the commission financially to enable it to hit the ground running.
