The National Cooperative Insurance Society of Nigeria (NCIS) has reaffirmed that the verification of third-party motor insurance policies should be conducted exclusively through its official portal.

The NCIS Director, Mr. Adetokunbo Adesanya, who made the clarification during a Press conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital addressed the widespread misconceptions regarding the validity of NCIS cooperative third-party motor vehicle insurance.

“The purpose of this press conference is to dispel any doubts about the legitimacy of NCIS cooperative third-party motor vehicle insurance. Verification can only be carried out via the NCIS portal, not through any other platform.”

Mr. Adetokunbo urged security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Police, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), and other enforcement bodies, to verify insurance authenticity using the NCIS Data Bank via the USSD code 347307#. He stressed that NCIS certificates are valid and should not be cross-checked on commercial insurance platforms.

“The validity of motor vehicle insurance transactions is derived from the relevant legal framework and is not subject to government intervention beyond what is stipulated by law,” he added.

Corps Commandant Adetunji Oki of the FRSC’s Motor Administration Department expressed the Corps’ support for NCIS, highlighting the critical role of third-party insurance in ensuring road safety.

“The FRSC prioritises the safety of lives and property on our highways. This is why we back any insurance scheme that promotes the use of valid third-party insurance. We want to eliminate roadside disputes following accidents. If all motorists have valid insurance, it simply becomes a matter of exchanging policy details and moving on. That is why we insist that all insurance providers must offer legitimate policies, ensuring that claims are honoured when needed,” he stated.

He further urged Nigerian motorists to embrace NCIS insurance, affirming its authenticity:

“I have personally verified NCIS policies. They have engaged with us consistently over the past few months, and we will provide them with all necessary support.”

It is hoped that this press briefing will put to rest any lingering controversies regarding the appropriate platform of NCIS Clarifies Third-Party Motor Insurance Verification Process.

The event was attended by stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Police, the FRSC, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
