The Kano – Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has organised a Sensitisation training for importers and exporters on a new Unified Customs Management System also called “B’Odogwu” to enhance trade efficiency.
Flagging off the training, the Custom Area Controller Kano – Jigawa Command Dalhatu Abubakar informed the stakeholders that, the new system is a digital platform designed to automate and streamline customs processes in Nigeria.
He explained that, the new system allows importers, exporters and other agents to submit customs declarations electronically, ensures risk management,
and enabling automated clearance of low-risk shipments among others.
According Controller Abubakar, the new platform is promising, transparent, efficient and effective as regards to customs clearance procedures.
“We invited stakeholders, clearing agents, terminal operators so that we can be on the same page.”
“The platform is developed by our custom officers and it is indigenous”.
He appealed to the media to widen the advocacy for more understanding.
Also speaking in a lecture presentation, Assistant Supretendent Sadiq Abubakar spoke on the advantages of the new system facilitating businesses.
He said, the new system is seamless and comfortable in declaration and clearance of consignments towards improving trade facilitation.
While it discourage the use of papers and manual system of operations, the Unified Customs Management System also called “B’Odogwu” Abubakar explained, aimed to human contact and encourage compliance.
“The objective is trade facilitation and secondly compliance and faster clearance in all our ports and borders.”
“Enhances the security of customs transactions and reduces the risk of smuggling and other illicit activities.”
Abubakar noted that, the application encourages single submission of information or aimed discouraging manual processes, repetition and compromises of data.
Also, the Kano State Chairman Association of Nigerian Licence Customs Agents Hafiz Rilwan commended the federal government and the NCS initiatives for migrating to the new platform of transaction for improved service delivery.
The Unified Customs Management System is an important initiative aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s customs processes, improving efficiency, transparency, and revenue collection, and facilitating trade.
