The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has taken a significant step towards reducing unemployment and poverty in Nigeria by empowering 5,532 beneficiaries with start-up tools under the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI).
This initiative, launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to provide vocational training, entrepreneurial skills, and job opportunities to 93,731 Nigerians.
At the presentation ceremony held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, commended the NDE for its efforts in empowering youths.
She encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the start-up tools wisely, emphasizing the importance of self-employment and job creation.
The NDE’s Director General, Silas Ali Agara, highlighted the initiative’s objectives, which include:
– Vocational Training: Providing skills training in areas like agriculture, fashion, and design, computer operations, and solar installation.
– Entrepreneurial Development: Supporting beneficiaries in establishing small-scale enterprises.
– Inclusivity: Targeting 10,588 women in income-generating activities and 3,000 persons with disabilities.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including Senator Diket Plang, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, and Adebayo Adefarati, Chairman of the House Committee on Labour.
As the NDE continues to implement the RHEI, it is expected that more beneficiaries will receive start-up tools and training, contributing to the reduction of unemployment and poverty in Nigeria.
