NDIC Urges Students On Financial Discipline, Saving Habits

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), has called on students of secondary schools to always to always employ financial discipline and saving habits for their socioeconomic development.
The Sokoto NDIC Zonal Controller, Mr Bello Usman-Kaoje, disclosed at a Sensitisation organized by the agency for students of Government Day Secondary School Kalambaina in Wamakko local government area of Sokoto state.
Mr Usman Kaoje said the sensitisation was part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at promoting financial discipline and saving attitude.
He said the activity was in commemoration of 2025 Financial Literacy Day, with the theme: “THINK BEFORE YOU FOLLOW, SPEND MONEY WISELY TOMORROW.”
According to him, NDIC intended to use the financial literacy day to educate students of secondary schools on how to generate, save and spend their earnings/monies appropriately.
“NDIC has been mentoring secondary school students on the benefits of efficient savings and money management.
“The aim was to encourage financial prudence and management as well as encourage savings and proper budgeting habits among students.
“It was also to accelerate investment growth in the nation’s economy through financial literacy, resource management, budgeting, and saving culture,” he said.
Mr Usman Ka’oje also urged students to be wary of financial frauds, which mostly occur through online banking, Point-of-Service Operators (POS), and others, due to greed and eagerness to obtain cheap proceeds.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ladan Ala, commended NDIC for organizing the sensitisation and promoting financial literacy among students in various schools.
Represented by the Deputy Director Basic of the Ministry, Malam Nasir Bello, said the event become necessary for them as future leaders to understand the importance of savings, investment and managing finances wisely.
He urged the participants to use the advantage learn effectively about financial literacy.
In his remarks, Official from the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sokoto branch, Mr Abubakar Usman, said commercial banks and microfinance institutions were available in the country with strict regulations on safeguarding deposits and financial transactions.
Also Speaking, Deputy Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Sokoto State Command, Mr Aliyu Omama, cautioned students on the dangers of drug abuse and related transactions.
Speaking of behalf of the School Principals, Hajiya Mansura Abdulsalam, described the event as beneficial and urged the students to take advantage of the event to change their attitude toward saving money.
Mansurat Abdulsalam thanked NDIC for choosing her school to conduct the sensitisation and assured more collaboration with the agency to promote educational activities at all time.
The highlight of the event was presentations of lecture by Convener of the event Hajiya Hadiza Waziri on how to earn money and spend, save wisely, questions and answers on various financial issues and likely frauds and others.
